The cool humidifier is usually used for epiglottitis, the cold particles of moisture, decrease swelling. Warm humidifier are use when there is a problem on the alveoli, the moisture travels easily been warm and helps to deposit small drops of water in the alveoli or terminal bronchi , making it possible to expectorate more easily, as it diminishes the aggregation of the mucus accumulated . You could also use micronebulization , with saline solution plus a bronchodilator which would help to expectorate more easily.

A cool mist humidifier uses ultrasonic or evaporation to humidify the air, the mist that comes out is a cool temperature. The warm mist basically boils the water and releases a small stream of steam into the air, the steam cools before it exits the humidifier but it's still warm. Why you'd want one over the other for your kids is something I don't know. I'm surprised it makes a difference.

I have both kinds of humidifiers. I use the large cool water humidifier for the living room and kitchen. I use the wam mist humidifier in the bedroom at night. I find the warm mist makes it easier and more comfortable to breath. Warm mist also helps those suffering with colds, flu and other breathing problems by opening up the nasal cavaties.

a warm humidifier is good for breathing difficulties. and most have a resivwar where you can put vicks vapor rub and it will heat up and go into the air with the steam. steam will open your throat and chest, for coughing and weasing. a cool mist is good to moisten the air. it can help you sleep with your mouth closed and snore less. it can also help prevent nose bleeds.

a cool mist humidifer is safer, because you dont have to worry about little hands getting burned if they go near the mist. But other then that they are the same thing.

I've had both and l like cool better. The warm tends to make my chest hurt, like it puts too much moisture in the air. I also think the cool has less bacteria problems.
