Nice question, and I hope you get some reasonable responses.

There are two different types of conservatives:

- Economic conservatives, which believe that there should be minimal government interference in our economy.

- Social conservatives, who believe that we should outlaw abortion, taking people off of respirators, same-sex marriage, etc.

Personally, I am both. I do see a role for govenment, but I don't think that the government does very many things well. It's not that I don't see the same social and economic problems that liberals see, but rather I see the answers to be something other than more / bigger government programs.

I'm a moderate conservative.
Anti-abortion, but I believe it should stay legal to give women a safe, sterile environment to have one. It should be more restricted, though. I still believe it's wrong.
Pro-same-sex unions, or commitment ceremonies.
Pro flat tax. I've come around since I've learned more about it.
Pro welfare reform.
Pro affirmative action reform.
Anti-illegal immigration.
For making English the official language of the US.
Neutral on Iraq.
Anti prayer in schools. However, if a student chooses to mention their religion in a speech for school, I don't see why that should be restricted. The ACLU saw a reason for it, though.
I'm liberal when it comes to the environment, but I don't go overboard. In a choice between a rare form of bird, and human life, I choose the human life. When a choice is not necessary, preserving ALL life is the best way to go. We do need to take care of our Earth though.

Does that give you an idea?

I lean more Conservative. I'm a realist, and I think that Conservatives look at the reality of an issue, while liberals look at things through rose colored glasses. They see things as they would like them to be, not as they actually are. It would be great if we could all sit around Kumbaya-in', but the reality is that it's just not going to happen.

I tend to support the liberal point of view. What I have observed about people I know that consider themselves conservative is that their opinions are easily influenced by the people around them. Many are influenced by the religious beliefs. Much the same as the so called terrorists. They are subjected to the ideology and in most cases accept it as truth without question
