There have been some really interesting answers to this question so far. I do think that Martina McBride, Faith Hill, and Shania Twain will ONE DAY be considered among the greatest female country singers of all time, at this moment I don't think they've been around long enough to make that kind of judgement.

Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, and Patsy Cline are certainly among the greatest ever, many of today's artists have been inspired by them, as will many more generations to come. Also worthy of mention would be Tammy Wynette, Tanya Tucker, Barbara Mandrell, and the Judds.

However, in terms of longevity, commercial sucess, and pure vocal talent, not to mention expanding the definition of country music to what it has become today, there is no one even close to Reba McIntire. From Nashville to Hollywood to Broadway, she has proven that she is a superstar in whatever endeavor she chooses, and she has certainly earned her status as a "living legend" and "the greatest of all time."

Reba for pure sound, Dolly for sound with entertainment.

I don't know how to put this but I think Norah Jones has an absolutely great voice but she doesn't sound too country. The duet that she and Dolly recorded on Norah's CD was great but it also distinguished two completely different styles.
