The basic premisis is it's about people who are wealthy and important (at least they think they are) having themselves cloned so that if they become ill or injured they can have their clones body parts. The clones live in a utopian society where a lottery is held at various times and if they "win" they get to go to the island, which they have been told is a wonderful place with no worries or cares. In fact, the island is nothing more than a body part harvesting center and the lottery is fixed so that when one of the clones owners is sick or injured, that clones name comes up and they are sent off to be harvested.

In the main part of the story, the main character (Marky Mark) begins to have memory of things and does not know what they mean. He finds out that the island does not exist and that being choosen means death. Finds out that girl (Scarlett Johanssen) is clone of a high priced fashion model and that model had been in a serious accident and needs her clones body parts. With the help of the maintenance/computer geek (Steve Buscemi) that knows about body harvesting, he and the girl escape, confront his "owner", etc. etc., finds out that his memories are his owners memories. Learn that his owner has fatal disease and that he was due to be harvested. Blah, blah, blah, bad guys come to retrieve girl and guy and high speed chases, etc. and the clone confuses bad guys to kill his owner instead of him. I can't remember how girl escapes from being harvested, but anyway, both of the clones survive and last scene is them riding off in a boat that he kept having memory flashes about.

I think that explains it somewhat. It was a bit confusing, but I watched it twice and got the above out of it. Whew!

OOPS. Ewan McGregor is the male star; where did I get Marky Mark from??? Sorry.

Lincoln Six-Echo and Jordan Two-Delta are among the hundreds of residents of a contained facility in the mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, everything about their day-to-day lives is monitored, seemingly for their own good. The only way out--and the hope they all share--is to be chosen to go to The Island, reportedly the last uncontaminated spot in the world following an ecological
disaster that took the lives of everyone on the planet except them. Recently plagued by unexplained nightmares, Lincoln is restless and increasingly questioning of the restrictions placed on his life. But he is unprepared for the truth when his growing curiosity leads to the terrible discovery that everything about his existence is a lie, that The Island is a cruel hoax and that he, Jordan and everyone they know are actually more valuable dead than alive. With time running out, Lincoln and Jordan make a daring escape to the outside world they've never known. Once they are away from the prying eyes of the institute, the innocent friendship the two shared begins to deepen into something more. But with the forces of the institute relentlessly hunting them down, Lincoln and Jordan have one overriding mission: to live.

AH your in luck, cuz i just finished watching that movie today! yes! I had to go through it like 3 times cuz i kept falling asleep but here it is: OK lincoln and that fine girl jordan are clones, they all are. The clones are paid for by rich ppl to use in case they, lets say, get in a car accident and need a heart replacement real quick. Theyre insurance policies. Lincoln finds out that the island is a lie, island=death, so he breaks out into the real world with Jordan=) and they try to find their sponsers (e.g. original molds). They believe that once the public knows the clones are living & thinking "humans" they wont be grown and slaughtered anymore.
It takes a minute, and alot of details are missing, but its good enough to give you something to think about.

the island.. directed by michael bay?

Lincoln Six-Echo is a resident of a seemingly Utopian but contained facility in the mid 21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to the "The Island" - reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. But Lincoln soon discovers that everything about his existence is a lie. He and all of the other inhabitants of the facility are actually human clones. Lincoln makes a daring escape with a beautiful fellow resident named Jordan Two-Delta. Relentlessly pursued by the forces of the sinister institute that once housed them, Lincoln and Jordan engage in a race for their lives to literally meet their makers.

The people in the place everyone is kept - it is actually a warehouse for rel people's clones. It is the future somewhat, and when you "WIN" to go to the Island, you die because the original YOU needs a new heart or whatever...... insurance in a very SICK AND TWISTED way......

Isn't that the movie about cloning and genetic engineering and all that stuff? I'm not sure...but it sounds familiar. I think we watched some clips of that when we were reading Brave New World last year.
