Oh, my. I just joined here yesterday. You folks don’t ask easy questions do you? This is good exercise for my old brain. ;-)

This will be written from a Christian POV. Let us start with God. The essence of God is called the Godhead. And within this there are three aspects. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. There are three aspects, or persons, but one being. This is a very hard thing for most of us to comprehend.

God is eternal, that means that God has no beginning and no end. Jesus himself was called the Alpha and Omega, which means the beginning and the end. The “Word” of God and the Son are the same. God spoke and the Word that he spoke caused the creation of the world. St. John of the Cross has a very beautiful poem called “Romances” which talks about the great Love within the trinity that overflowed into creation. But creation did not understand its creator. And the Father talked to the Son and the Son to the Father and they decided (according to St. John of the Cross) that the Son should become one with His creation so that the creation would know him better. And the Son could bring creation itself back into the Godhead.

When God became “incarnate”, that is that God came into creation. God became a human being just like the rest of us except for one thing. That thing was sin. Sin is not, as most people believe, a list of wrong doings, sin is anything that separates us from self, others and from God. Jesus was the only human born without sin. (Now for a side point: this leads us into the question of how Jesus could be born without sin is he was born of a human woman because all humans after Adam and Eve are born with what the church calls “original sin”. The Roman Catholic Church goes to great lengths to explain this with the idea of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. This means that Mary was born without sin. I follow the teaching of the Orthodox churches on this one because to me it makes more sense. That teaching is that Mary was an ordinary woman but when she conceived Jesus, at the moment of His conception He also washed away her original sin. In this way He could be born without sin.)

Jesus was in this way both man and God. There were many heresies early in the church that debated this fact. The whole of the church met at Counsels to sort out who Jesus was and what he taught.

As to why we pray to Jesus or to God in the name of Jesus. When he was on this earth Jesus taught us that "whatever we ask God in His (Jesus') name it will be done". And that is why we end every prayer with "in the name of Jesus". It is like going before a ruler and name dropping someone you know the ruler has great respect for. Also many times we pray to Jesus because he was one of us and like a brother where God the Father may seem more distant. I do both.

One final word. Some of us (in the Orthrodox, Roman Catholic, and Anglican churches) talk to the Saints. Some people get confused about that and think that we pray TO a Saint instead of to God. What we do is to talk to a Saint and ask them to pray WITH us. The reason for that is that Jesus taught that whenever any 2 people agree on anything when they pray it will be done. If there is not another person with you, you might ask a Saint to pray with you. All of the main churches that I have mentioned believe in "Saints" as those who are canonized by the Chruch and "saints" are all the rest of us. The Orthrodox say that you can pray to any departed soul, big S or small.

Here ends your lession in Christology 101.

I should answer this, since it seems that I am the only one yet who knows the truth.

There are 3 beings in the Godhead.
Jesus the Son.
God the Father.
and The Holy Ghost

They are separate, but ONE in purpose. That is the misconception of many religions.

We should pray to God the Father through Jesus.

Strange how simple it is, huh?

Do you know how you can tell the truth of the matter? The truth will not confuse you.

Ask God in Jesus's name if what I write is true and he will manifest the truth to you by means of the Holy Ghost.

God is the creator of everything! God is pretty much a great big ball of energy of the most wonderful joy and peace one could ever feel. Jesus is gods "son" obviously not like we humans can of sons! Jesus was pretty much like the chosen one to show everyone gods ways and he had the power to heal people unlike any other person!

The answer to this question depends upon your religion. Here is mine. God the Father sent his son Jesus Christ to be born of a mortal woman. Jesus is literally the Son of God on earth.

Jesus himself prayed to his Father, not to himself: "Our Father which art in Heaven..." At the time of Jesus' baptism, God the Father recognized Jesus by saying, "This is my beloved son in whom I am well-pleased."

During the first Christian conference under the rule of Constantine, bishops unified their varying doctrines to state that the Father and the Son are the same being. I hold that they are two distinct individuals in body, but of one purpose. The Father sent the Son to accomplish his will.

Because of his sacrifice for our sins, Jesus Christ acts as our mediator, our advocate with the Father. Because of this, we pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. However, God hears all of our prayers, no matter what our beliefs or how we address him.

Jesus was the Avatar or physical manifestation of God on earth. For that reason he could be thought of as the Son of God, yet still be the true Himself which was God.

God the Father is one God, but there are many facets of this one God. The trinity offers the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. There is also mention of the seven spirits of God that roam the earth in Revelations.

The Hebrew word Echad means unity. The Hebrew "Echad" says "Hear oh Israel, the Lord our God is One (Echad)."

The bible says that Jesus existed before the earth, and that all of creation occurred through him (Gospel of John).

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.

Jesus said to pray: "Our Father..."
http://www.robinsweb.com/inspiration/lordsprayer.html

He said that if you ask in His (Jesus') name, it will be done.
http://www.learnthebible.org/praying_in_jesus_name.htm

So, one thing you could do is: when you pray, pray to God the Father, and pray in Jesus' name.

If you want people not to pray through Jesus - well, you must accept that these days nothing gets done without a powerful agent.

Father God, Son God, Holy Spirit God (trinity) names are God's characteristic in relation to human kind.
For we did not have direct access to the Father God, In God's eternal grace, He himself came to the earth as Son of God to take back the athority stolen by the devil. Now we have access to God through son God(Jesus) the savior of mankind. In God's realm there are no hirarchy but for men it is given. Hope you understand it.
