Americans are very egocentric. If they follow politics at all - which many of them don't - they are only concerned with their domestic politics and current foreign policy misadventure du jour.

They don't realize how dependent upon Canada they are. Canada is their largest trading partner. The US gets more oil from Canada than any other country. And the US will become increasingly dependent upon Canada for water. But 99% of Americans have no idea of this.

I've been living in the US for some time now, but I do know the answer to your questions: John A. MacDonald was the first PM of Canada. Stephen Harper is the current PM. Ben Mulroney is the son of former PM Brian Mulroney - Ben hosts Canadian Idol. And Pierre Trudeau was a Liberal PM from the late 1960's until the 1983 - with a break in the late 70's for a Joe Clark Minority government.

I and most other Americans don't really pay attention to Canadian politics, for two main reasons.

First, it isn't covered very much in the U.S. Second, Canada is so stable and moderate that there really isn't much of a need to pay attention to what is going on up there.

I know that may seem bad and provincial, but keep a few things in mind. Many if not most Americans do not live within range of Canadian broadcasts, and most global or satellite networks are owned by Americans and dominated by American concerns. We don't even have the CHANCE to keep up with Canadian affairs.

But would we really need to? America has a much higher population and economy than Canada. Canada pretty much keeps to itself and doesn't take drastic action, whereas America is quite the opposite. American actions have a much more profound impact on Canada than Canadian actions have on America.

It makes sense for Canada to stay informed about America, but not as much for America to stay informed about Canada. It's kind of like if you have two neighbors, one a quiet, simple man and the other a rambunctious party animal. Of course the quiet guy is going to keep an eye on his neighbor, but the wild man doesn't really need to concern himself with the quiet neighbor.

As to the people you asked me to identify, without looking them up, I am pretty sure those were all recent Canadian Prime Ministers, although one of them may have been an advocate for Canadian "independence". Sorry, that's the best I can do :)

I don't think that most Americans even are able to get Canadian television. I know that Canadians are able to view many American cable networks, but we don't get those here. I also don't think many care.

I live very close to the U.S.-Canadian border, so I pick up a few Canadian stations. I can tell you that Brian Mulroney is doing a great job!! Keep up the good work!

I know those are all Canadian PM's, but didn't you forget John Turner? Was it he or Mulroney who used to hit women on the rear end?

certainly American politics. i don't love old woman's answer, i pay interest to American information in basic terms as a lot as Canadian and that i do not recommendations. i like understanding whats happening in different international locations and that i don't love being self based and not in any respect giving a **** whats happening elsewhere. It doesn't truly make sense for us to pay alot of interest to British politics when you consider that what occurs there truly does no longer impression us.

Has little to do with fair. The US has enough to worry about with its politics. The 2nd item I don't have cable & neither the local press nor the networks report much about Canada. I do hear drugs can be purchase cheaper thru your pharmasies.

elysialaw I do like your sense of hummer! Stay warm.

Sorry don't really care what you do up there unless you are fudging things up for us. Also, I've never watched Canadian News.

Maybe the reason for the American television is because you are all huddled so close to the US?

Only that the country is becoming more conservative, to the dismay of Canadians. It's the American influence.

Not at all. I don't think that we get any Canadian news broadcasts where I live (northern VA). And Canadian affairs are hardly mentioned on the news here.

I really should pay more attention to Canadian politics, but unfortunately, I don't. Things are so hectic right now with the U.S., it's all I can do to keep up with ours. I'm sorry.
