Assuming the toilet wasn't actually in use at the time--probably. I read once that a flushed toilet is actually cleaner than a kitchen sink (because of the raw meat that gets rinsed in the sink). I also read that if you keep the toothbrush in the bathroom, you've already got bacteria on it that were sprayed into the air when you flushed--so a few more won't hurt. Most importantly, most bacteria can't survive longer than a few days outside their host organism. So it should be fine in a day or two.

Gross, no! Toilets are cleaned with bleach, so even though there is only water in the toilet, your toothbrush could have bleach on it. Plus, when you clean the toilet, not all the germs go away. You don't want to be brushing your teeth with a bleachy toothbrush that could have "other germs from other 'stuff'" on it, do you? Sorry, but you are going to have to go to the dollar store to get another one. It's only a dollar, as you know. It's not too spendy.

I wouldn't use it again. You should just go buy a new one and while you are at it buy an extra two or three. That way when you have an incident like this again you have your spares.

As disgusting as it might be the truth is that most toilets are cleaner than the kitchens! It's true. I always wondered why my dog never got the flu.......
