My battery light has been staying on for several days. I think that means I need to replace the altenator. Can anyone tell me where to find it under the hood, and whether it's too difficult physically for a woman to change (average to mediocre strength)? My car is a 1983. Thanks.

it is located on passenger side under neath. if you have long finger nails,it will damage it. it takes alot of strenght to loosen those bolts.if you can lift a hundred pounds, there is a chance you can loose those tight bolts. you have to remove it from under the car

Have your vehicle inspected by a qualified professional. You may not need to change the alternator. If it is necessary to change the alternator, consider paying to have it done. It is not an easy task.

If you wish to DIY, you need to remove and replace the alternator from underneath the vehicle.
