My daughter did this and head-butt things until she was a year old. Her pediatrician said it was just a way of her throwing fits ar realizing the cause and effect situation. I don't think that I would be to worried about it. She should out grow it soon and find something else to hit. If you are worried about it call her doctor and have them sit down and talk to you about it.

Right off the top, I'd say most likely not.... My 14 mnth old loves to head butt herself, for whatever reason she finds it amusing. When she's naked after a bath she sometimes pinches her stomach. Not hard enough to leave a mark, just enough to feel the pinch. At 6 months old your baby is learning cause and effect. She's learning that her actions have consequences. A hard lesson to learn for all of us. It's kind of like a baby who hasn't quite figured out that for her head to stop hurting she needs to let go of her hair that her hand is busy pulling for whatever reason!

However, looking deeper, If you feel for whatever ever reason that she's doing it purposely to hurt herself ask her pediatrician. Moms know best, even first time moms. Follow Your gut your own advice is always the best, and no... no mother's gut is broken sometimes our emotions just get in the way!

That depends...Is she doing it hard, or just patting her "fat tummy"?
If you think it's too hard, she may be trying to tell you her tummy hurts. There are a few other neurological things it could be, but I'd start with concern for a tummy ache/constipation first. Call your pediatrician. If they aren't concerned and you still are, call another one. You're the mom, your concern rules.

I don't think so. I have a six-month old who hits herself in the head a lot. I think they're just realizing cause and effect. They would have to hit themselves extremely hard for it to hurt. He/she probably just thinks its fun.

my six month old hits herself in her stomach and i don't pay it any attention because she doesn't cry when she does it meaning it doesn't hurt and she's just exercising her little arms otherwise playing

No, this is just one of the things babies do, when they hit themselves it is usually because they don't have real good control of their aim yet and the slapping sounds usually entertains them

Hmm, no I don't think so. You might wanna bring it up to the doctor casually next time though.

nah, if it hurt them they'd learn to stop it. It's called a learned behaviour.
