Barbara Mandrell officially retired from singing in October 1997 although she continues to pursue occasional acting appearances.
In 1999 Barbara was inducted into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Although retired, she remains a Grand Ole Opry member.
In October 2006 BNA Records released "She Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool: A Tribute To Barbara Mandrell". The disc included Mandrell covers performed by Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire, Gretchen Wilson, Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley and Terri Clark among others. Great American Country television network televised a documentary based on the making of the tribute album.
