Hello? Do you know for a fact that Chinese restaurant used dogs and cats to cut cost? How dare you to insult Chinese restaurant like that? F.Y.I. There are health department who comes by to check on the restaurant every 3-6 months to make sure restaurant are meeting their requirements. If health department see restaurant using unsafe/contaimated food products they will demand the restaurant to throw out all food immediatey. If restaurant does use animal such as dogs and cats I am 100% sure that restaurant will be close right of the mins and surely will be fine for it too. You may hear that Asian people eat dogs in their mainland but that doesn't mean Asian people use such products to serve others.

It is illegal to eat dog or cat here in Hong Kong, so using dog or cat meat is absolutely not cutting the cost, indeed, spending time to hunt dogs & cats in the street or breed them for cooking meals to serve is a huge waste of manpower and time consuming!

Restaurants can get butchered meat (chicken / beef / pork / mutton) supplied & delivered by just making phone calls.

So, my answer is I have no worry about what meat they serve me in restaurants like what you do in your country. Are you in some remoted area?

Cats and dogs are dleicious if that's what they're using...no, seriously, that story was old and unbelievable 30 years ago. They don't really spend that much on meat to begin with. If you notice, most of their dishes include alot of veggies and rice, which reduces the amount of meat in each dish.

It's really hard to tell what kind of meat it is. I have had some that was so stringy I could not chew it. Whatever it is the stuff can be atrocious, almost like wood; could be dog or cat.

There are no dogs in China; they have all been eaten.

If you are not sure, or just grossed out about the thought of it. Just don't eat there, or any other place with food you are not sure of. Better safe then sorry.
