The idea is to answer more than you ask, at first.
To contribute. To find out how things work, and what is and is not accepted here.
Once you have demonstrated that you are willing to help others, and not abuse the site, you earn the right to more participation.
I think the main idea is to prevent abuse.
Answer more than you ask, and you will gain more points. How I used to hate it when I reached my daily limits, and had to wait before I could answer more Questions! :-))
I think the original idea behind Y!A was to build a searchable database of useful, personal, individually-tailored answers to real questions. Information provided by people who really know.
You have to demonstrate that you are willing to contribute to that before you are allowed unlimited participation.
This is the Big Secret: Answer more than you Ask. That is it. That is how it works.
EVERYBODY knows something, whether about pets, or music, or relationships, or Math, or cooking. or Chemistry, or Art, or polititics, or video games, or hair, or makeup, or sports, or History, or auto mechanics, or language, or software, or SOMETHING that somebody else wants to know.
Find YOUR category, and ANSWER QUESTIONS. :-))
