House arrest in when a criminal cannot leave their home. They wear an ankle bracelet that notifies the police if they leave the premises. This allows the jails to not be as crowded and the criminal to remain in the home and taken care of by the family. This allows children to see their dad/mom on a daily basis and for family life to continue. This is good when the person arrested has a positive influence in the home and for certain kinds of crimes. Its downside would be that it would be easier to escape if the person has a mind to do that. They could be far away before the authorities could respond if they had the escape planned out well enough. I not sure what net widening is but if it is letting the person under house arrest go further from the house then it would allow him/her to continue working to support the family, it would also make it easier to escape. ↨
