I am looking to find a cell phone that also has wifi so I can check email at wireless hotspots. I know that there are wifi skype phones, but that is not what I am looking for. I know that I can get internet service on my phone through the carrier, but that is not what I am looking for - it is too expensive. Just need a good phone for making regular cell phone calls, that will also allow me to connect to a wireless hotspot. Prefer Verizon, but i would switch carriers if i have to. Thanks!

I feel the need to clarify this. I am looking for FREE wifi. The phones that come with T-Mobile allow connection with T-Mobile hotspots, $30/mo. for the service. I want to be able to connect to any wirelss lan, at my friends house, or at any random coffee house or public hotspot.

There are a few out there but not sure exactly which one. The one I know that definatly that has is the T-Mobile MDA. It has EDGE and WiFi. But T-mobile charges you an extra $30 for unlimited use of EDGE and their wireless hotspots. if you using free WiFi then you dont need any data plans. If you do need edge you can add on the 5.99 T-Zones plan intended for regular cell phones (do it in online, CS are hesitant and will deter you from adding it on to the MDA plan. They think WiFi is associated with EDGE. O_o.. ). But I have heard issues with it conflicting with WiFi due to the use of proxies needed to go online with EDGE.

..EDIT..

you dont need to add on any data plans. like i said. just buy the phone without any data plans only voice and youll be able to use the wifi. wifi isnt carrier specific.

AT&T requires a smart phone data plan with all smart phones regardless of where you buy the phone. If you use the phone, AT&T will add the data plan to your account as soon as the network detects you're using a smart phone. Your wifi usage will be free but you'll be paying for a data plan.

The Samsung i730 (available from Verizon) has a built-in WIFI lets you use the i730 to access the internet from any "hot spot".

The Sidekick 3 from T-Mobile has internet. If you have a rate plan it is 20 dollars monthly for unlimited internet, unlimited text messages, and unlimited IMs. On pay as you go it is a dollar per day.
