The symptoms are different depending upon whether you are a man or a woman. Most men have pain in their arm and chest - like a crushing weight pain on their chest - women have more diverse signs - some chest pain but many have back pain too. The best thing to do is do not wait to decide if it is really a heart attack - if you are not allergic to aspirin then take 1-2 aspirin (like st. joseph's baby chewable) and get help.

My husband had a heart attack almost 8 years ago. The only symptom he had was an upset stomach. There was no heaviness in his chest, no pain in his arms..he thought he just had a stomach ache that wouldn't go away. He was dealing with this in the middle of the night and by the time I decided to get up and check him, he was in the cold clammy sweat. The ambulance was there within 4 minutes of my call and it was a good thing, because when they put him in the ambulance he than had his heart attack and they had to take the paddles to him. Not everyone is going to have the "classic" symptoms that we always hear about. If you should be having pains pop some aspirin and call 911

I am a nurse in an ER, you need to know that there are varying degrees of the symptoms of a heart attack, some people may not have all symptoms. Unlike the first answer you received, you may not fall out on the floor and lose consciousness. Pt's that are experiencing a heart attack have symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, sweating, pain, pressure or feeling "different" in the stomach, chest, or neck. Many women have vague symptoms of MI (i.e. heart attack), such as heart burn, and shoulder pain. If you think you may be having a heart attack, take 4 baby chewable asprin or one adult asprin (one that is not coated)

Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts for more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back. The discomfort can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain. Heart attack pain can sometimes feel like indigestion or heartburn.
