There is this product called a "Boppy". This can be found at Target or Toy's R Us. It is a breast feeding pillow but I bout one exclusively to help my son sit up. I started him in it around 4 months but it should still work for you. Put him in between and put his arms between his legs.

It's not that he "can't" sit alone. He is just a little unsure of himself. Don't worry too much. just keep an eye on him and when you see him trying to sit up then help him. My first child sat alone at 4 1/2 months and was scooting around on the floor at 5 months and trying to go up stairs but at that age they don't understand yet how it works, he was walking all by himself at 9 months. But with no other children I devoted most of the day to working with him. when my other babies were born I didn't have so much free time and they did things at their own rate when they were ready! Be sure to place a thin pillow or blanket behind him. babies will often fall straight back when trying to sit alone and this could really hurt him!

This is one of the reasons walkers are no longer recommended. Sitting up is a matter of inner-ear development and balance more than back strength. Just keep working at it, maybe get one of those (annoyingly expensive) baby chairs and sit him up in it to help him develop his balance.

Boppy pillows are great! We used to sit my son up in it, and it helped to develop his back muscles... Give it a try! Good luck!

My son was 10 months old when he finally learned to sit up on his own. Just give it some time, he'll sit up on his own, I can promise that ;)

I bought one for my son, he didn't really care for it, but I have heard of a lot of people whose kids really liked it.
