Star on movie "Lord of War"?

What does that star mean in the Nicholas Cage movie "Lord of War?" I have also seen it on the side of many houses in my area. It looks like a normal 5 sided star & gets thicker in the middle. Make sense?

If it is the red star it is the emblem for the Russian Army.
