The quick way to check your charging system is to loosen your negative battery cable so you can remove it easily. Now start your engine and remove the cable with the engine running. If the enginr dies immediately, you need a new alternator. If the engine doesn't die right away, I'd still go to a parts store and have it checked, as it may be weak. you may also have voltage regulator problems, depending on the car you have. Either way, it sounds like your car is running off the battery. take care of the problem quickly, before the battery dies.

Most likely, your alternator is malfunctioning.
If your vehicle is a 1993 or newer, DO NOT unhook the negative cable end of the battery while the vehicle is running. This is NOT a valid test of the alternator's output, and can potentially damage sensitive electronic functions.
The "unhook the battery" test went out with kicking the tires, the bounce test for shocks, pop-starting a manual-shift, and black-and-white television.
Have your vehicle inspected by a qualified technician.

The battery gauge is indicating a discharging battery due to the extra electrical load. This should return to center as you rev the engine.
It may be time for a charging system checkup.

Gauge is measuring the charging or discharging of the battery. Charging occurs when the electric charge is toward the battery, discharge when the current moves the other way.

chances are you need an alternator but you can check by starting the car then removing the negative terminal from the battery if it dies you need an alternator if it doesnt then turn on your headlights on highbeams if it dies then , then the alternator is weak and it will need to be replaced shortly

Your alternator and/or voltage regulator is failing.
Get it fixed before you get stuck somewhere you don't wanna get stuck.
