order of operation
When expressions have more than one operation, we have to follow rules for the order of operations:
1. First do all operations that lie inside parentheses.
2. Next, do any work with exponents or radicals.
3. Working from left to right, do all multiplication and division.
4. Finally, working from left to right, do all addition and subtraction.
first do the multiplication of 2(5x-6) then do the subtraction.

Distribute the -2 first, then solve for x. If the equation =0 then:
6-10x+12=0
Combine Like-terms
-10x+18=0
Subtract 18 from both sides
-10x=-18
Divide both sides by -10
x=9/5

Order of operations BEDMAS
Brackets, Expononts, Divison/Multi, Addition/Subraction
So, you do the Bracket first, but 5x-6 cannot be further simplified .. so you multiply the bracket by 2, and you have
6-(10x-12) now. you can multiple the - over the bracket and get 6+(-10x+12) and since addition is associative you do not need the bracket..
6-10x+12, adding 12 and 2, you get -10x+18
to check, say x+2
-10(2)+18=-20+18=-2
and
6-2(5x-6)=
6-2(10-6)=
6-2(4)=
6-8= -2
hope that helps!

I haven't done math in quite a while but I did exceptionally well on the International Baccalaureate trigonometry exam and this is fairly simple. You distribute first. ;)

first,
-2(5x-6)= -10x+12
then
6-10x+12
now you have to combine
-10x+18
