My daughter is starting on solid foods and I think I may have given her something that was too much for her stomach - mac n cheese. She's been vomiting pretty bad ever since - where's vomit's literally pouring out. I called the on call doctor who told me to give her pedialyte. But, she's since fallen asleep. She seemed happy and playful before she went to sleep.

I'm worried about her being dehydrated. Should I wake her up and try to feed her some more juice?

Should I let her sleep?

Do not feed her juice. Juice is too acidic and laden with sugars and will exaggerate both the vomitting and the rate of dehydration. Keep her fluids up with water AND pedialyte. If she won't drink the pedialyte at all.' then put a little juice in for flavour, a very little. She needs electrolytes in order to maintain hydration. Just let her drink small amounts, frequently. At her age I would be watching the following
1 is she wetting her diaper at a regular rate
2. is she feverish
3 is she able to maintain her body temp
4 if she is lethargic and unable to keep anything down, take her to the emergency rroom or outpatients clinic.
At this age children dehydrate quickly, if any of the above, or any other unusual symptoms occur then I would take her top outpatients. Mc and cheese is probably a bad Idea, try her on something with less dairy at her age. oatmeal with raisins, or some steamed veggies. Dried cranberries are good, as are things like bananas and ripe pears cut into cubes. Tofu(firm) cut into fingers and rolled in parmesan and fine bread crums and baked for a few minutes is a really good finger food for kids that age. Give her a few months and then start her with chicken breast and work up from there

did you feed her Gerber mac n cheese or mac n cheese that adults eat? I wouldn't wake her up to give her Pedialyte. She's resting...when she wakes up give her some then. What stage baby food are you using. Stage 2 or Stage 3...stage 3 might be too much for her tummy. Does she have dirrahea? Could be a stomach virus..a fever? Hope she gets better. I know its nerve wracking when they can't tell you what's wrong. Trust your instincts.

Let her sleep.I find it hard to believe she threw up so violently from mac n cheese. If that was the cause of it then she has a severe allergy to something in it which I really dont think so because she is not showing no signs of any other allergies.

Let her sleep. When she wakes check to see how wet she is. If she is as wet as normal give her what you would normally for breakfast. Otherwise if she is not as wet give her more juice and take her to the Doctors office. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I would give her pedilyte if she wakes up, juice is high in acid and may only make matters worse. Be sure she doesn't vomit in her sleep., as she can choke on her vomit.

If she's not running a fever, let her sleep. Baby's are amazing on letting you know what they need and when! It's nerve racking, but let her sleep. Been there, done that :)
