I haven't carved a pumpkin in years. But I thought it would be fun to try and do a Link face, or maybe Link from the original Zelda.

Well, you could try printing out your favorite pic then taping it to the pumpkin (enlarge or shrink as necessary). You don't want every single line, but you could choose just the major lines to suggest Link's face. What are the characteristics that make Link Link? Concentrate on those. Use a box knife or exacto to trace the lines you want (making sure you leave a scratch in the pumpkin underneath), then take off the paper and have at it with your regular carving knife.

BTW, you can practice this to see how you like the effect by Exacto-knifing out the line you want onto plain black paper, first. Hold up to the light to see if you like the pattern you've formed.

If you have photoshop, take a pic of Link and apply the notepaper filter. Size to fit your pumpkin and print. Check Martha Stewart's site for a bunch of tricks and tips.
