I came home to find my 6 year old playing with cards that had skulls and twin headed dragons and most of them where covered in flames. I couldn't help but think that these cards were satanic. I will be honest I don't know much about yugioh or what they do with the cards, however on the cards it talked about pulling stuff from the graveyard and life points. I am in no way perfect but i did feel like this was too much for a 6 year old to have. Now when I sit back and think about it I am totally lost because I know nothing about the cards and its hard to explain something to a 6 year old when you don't understand the game he's learning to play. Not putting the game or the players down, I am just curious to know what the general public thinks of the games and the cards?

Here is my2cents on the matter:
Satan's job is to decieve us. Something "innocent" is introduced to society. We think that this thing is harmelss enough, so we go along with the flow and use it or participate. This is when our barriers start coming down. We get desensitized to things so that before we know it, we find ourselves involved in much worse things, wondering how we even got there to begin with.

If you are uncomfortable with your 6 year old playing with the cards, it is your perogative as the parent to make that choice. Don't rely on what the world thinks, because the world is headed in the wrong direction. Do what YOU as the parent believe is right for your own home. Explain to your child that the pictures make you feel bad inside and when you feel bad inside, the best choice is to not play with them and to find something to do that makes you have good feelings. Then the two of you can look at examples of "good" things that make you feel comfortable.
You not only set a standard in your home, you empower your child to make decisions for his/her own safety. You are teaching them that they can and should trust their feelings.

Well, the game is really not meant to be frightening or anything. The cards are based on mythological creatures and animals, really. The cards with skulls are just part of the card game, and the twin headed dragons are not meant to be scary or anything, just "cool" to little kids.

The basic game is really easy to play, though it does involve math with reducing your life points. The graveyard is just the name they have to the discard pile in the game.

As for having a 6-year-old play the game, I think that it's very possible, and although he might not get all of the rules and card effects, he will understand the basic rules of the game.

Try watching the TV show of Yu-gi-oh, it might make more sense to you then.

Yu Gi Oh! is a wonderful fun and intellectually demanding cards playing game. One of the best I have seen so far. It's based on the famous manga/anime by Kazuki Takahashi, where kids can duel with eachother by summoning magic creatures among which you can find: dragons, zombies, warriors, elves, magicians and others. Each creature with an own name, level, atack, deffense value, etc. the goal of the game is getting your challenger's life points from 8000 to 0 to win the game. It's a very good game to develope your kid's reasoning habits, believe me. But if you're not convienced yet and you'd like to know more you can take a look at the rules here:

whatch the cartoon, they are too young to play that game, but if they get used to the cards, in a few years he will understand the great strategy game and will play it and developpe smartness( I dunno if its a word) and win prices, and find a very educating hobbie, the images are not made to scare them, there are some angels, just that ppl rather the cool skull ones and stuff but the kids have their choices, my neighbor is 9 and its still difficult for him 2 understand the game but its just cuz h does not speak english, I say let themn watch the series, if they like that game, it will motivate them cuz it talks about 2 never give up and positive stuff, its only good things, and they show them that the bad guys are not good and they should b stopped lol ;) well good luck and don,t worrie

I's a game. Perhaps a bit much for a six year old, but more because of the complexity of the game than it's stylistic elements. I'd worry more about the behavior of some of the players (cheating in both the game and in trading is rampant in many areas) than the card art.

its just a game

the thing you are saying satanic is clearly the image and the choice of word they used. they only used that image for visual or something to describe the monster/character or how you call it. the "graveyard, life points" are just terms which is common to almost all card and video games

but if you like you can try to give him a deck or cards that doesnt look demonic (there are those angel ones if you like)

no need to worry, its just a game based off of a cartoon. the show has a magical basis thats why it has those characters. the skulls and stuff doesnt have anything to do with evil (religiously speaking) but are just characters in the game. dont worry, your child wont become a satan worshipper or anything..just let him enjoy the game and use his brain, because it requires skill to play that game!
