Not all laptops have bluettoth and infra red. Most newer laptops will have bluetooth but not infra red. Few will have both. Bluetooth is not on low end laptops usually some mid range laptops and upwards. A good way to check is to go into Control Panel (CP) then switch to Classic view on the left hand side of the CP then double click on System icon, then select Hardware tab then click Device Manager button. If you have blue tooth or infra red and they are installed properly it will be listed in here.

You can check for the specs on your laptop manufacturers webapge.

Actually, there would be a small (about 3") bluetooth antenna coming from a usb port on the laptop. My Toshiba came with Blue Tooth capabilities (meaning the software) but to use Blue Tooth I must first buy the Blue Tooth antenna, which is about 35 bucks. My friend has a Blue Tooth enabled cellphone and he got the BT antenna for his laptop and plugged it in and didn't have to do anything else. The laptop automatically picked up the cell phone and visa versa! He's just sending back n forth in a jolly little frenzy! LOL! good luck to ya :-)

Well if your laptop has infared you well notice a reddish translucent covering in the back part of the laptop. That is where the laser is "shot" out of. As for Bluetooth it may be a card or integrated. It would help if you told us what laptop u have.
