and I have been on 88mcg of levothyroxine for about 5 years. I still am extremly fatigued no matter how much sleep I get, no energy at all, depressed 99% of the time at varying degrees, other minor syptoms as well. I have been reading about armour thyroid as a possibility.. I want to discuss with my doctor the possibility of either upping my current dosage or totally switching to armour. what I would like is comments and suggestions on this. I would like to arm myself with enough information on arnour for my doc to read....

First off Gagan G is a complete idiot this is not a topic to be taken lightly.
Personally I think you should see your doctor. Explain your current problem and see what s/he has to say about it.
Here's a wonderful site that should tell you what you want to know.

good luck and I hope it helps what ever you decide to do.

I have hypothyroid too, doctors like to perscribe levo instead of armour but armour is natural and is taken up by the thyroid alot better than levo and other synthetics. I think you should also try low carb diet along with armour thyroid. I have been seeing an doctor who practices homeopathy and she put me on low carbs and armour....I feel great. Most docs I saw did not want to hear about armour and refused to prescribe it so I would say if he/she wont then find another doc. There is a site that list the best thyroid doctors in the US I searched for BEST THYROID DOCTORS in yahoo which is where I found my doc. Good luck

Speaking to your doctor about these symptoms is absolutely imperative. Your doctor will take another blood test (TSH levels) to determine if the 88 mcg you are taking is effective. You may also be suffering from clinical depression, in which case your levothyroxine alone would NOT treat. Be sure to include all symptoms as stated above in your discussion with your doctor. Also, be sure to speak to your doctor about taking the brand name, SYNTHROID. Synthroid maintains your proper TSH level, whereas taking a generic may cause your levels to fluctuate (the pharmacy is allowed to switch generics from month to month, which means you may not be getting the same medicine every month- with synthroid, you are guaranteed to get the same amount of medicine in the same pill every month). Hope this helps!

I'd talk to a naturopath and see what they have to say. There are so many natural ways to get thyroid problems under control.
Iodine is one major nutrient that is crucial for a well-working thyroid.

I recommed Energenics.
I've seen this product boost energy in to hypothyroid ladies at my practice.

I think you need to talk to your doctor about the medication you are on also have a complete blood screen, not just to check your thyroid. You may have anemia also and that will make you feel tired as well.

Have you been going for regular blood checks to make sure you're on the right dosage? It does sound like your dose is not high enough as you seem to still be displaying all the usual thyroid symptoms.

I agree with Gonzo in that you should get this checked out by a doctor, you may need to up your dose or there may be other factors in play here, your doc may need to do a CBC as well
