I read in the NY Times last year that studies show ginsing reduces the amount, severity, and length of the common cold. has anyone ever tried this, and if so what were the results? also, is there any food that is abundant in ginsing, or do you have to take it in pill form?

Dont know about the cold thing.. BUT, it does enhance the 'sex drive'!! hehehe

As far as products with it.. Go to an 'Herb' store, or a 'health store' like GNC. They should have it. I know you can buy the gum. And i know you can actually buy the plant itself here in the States at Herbal stores.

Ginseng is a plant. There are generally two forms used: American Ginseng (Panax) and Siberian ginseng (Eleuthrococcus). The root of the plant is the effective part, and people commonly take either extracts of the root in water or alcohol; in powdered form as capsules or pills. However, ginseng is not generally thought of by western herbalists as a cold remedy.

No.
Ginsing is considered an Adaptogen which is used to revive depleted adrenal glands when exhausted from stress.

Monolaurin is more effective at preventing a cold from progressing if start on the first day of the cold.
