I'm 12, almost 13. When do I get my first physical check up? I heard you have to get one in 8th grade. Isn't that embaressing though? Am I wrong?

whoever told you that is right. 8th grade is about the right time to do so. And yes it is a little awkward:( I remember my first check up and I felt the same way as you do right now, but to my surprise it actually wasn't that bad.
The time go's by so fast, good luck

Some parts are embarrasing, at least at first. Some person (which is worse, a male doctor or a female?!) is gonna check out your "parts", including the "naughty parts."

Women are pretty good about filling in the girls about what to expect, from the cold jelly stuff to the paper gown. Guys, on the other hand, say nothing to the boys, and snicker when they complain. Have you ever noticed that women can talk for hours about their recovery after child birth and their last mammogram, while the guys don't even KNOW they have a prostate, much less talk about it?

The good news is that you tend to get used to it. Part of the reason is that you aren't nearly as uptight about getting naked as you get older. Part of the reason is that you know what to expect, and know the importance of doing all that stuff.

The bad news is that it gets worse as you get older. Women feel like everyone in the entire hospital has to do a female exam when they're having a baby. Men get the fun of having a prostate digital massage when they can't take a wiz anymore.

Every year. More frequently if you have something else that is going on that you might need a doctor for, but normally a physical is once a year.

Don't be afraid. It's embaressing at first when you're not used to going and having a stranger look at parts of your body that you don't show anyone else. You'll get used to it over time.

Best wishes.

Usually after you start puberty you should go get a check up every year. This is just a physical exam to see if your growing well and there arent any problems. Its not embarrassing. Just try to find a doctor you are comfortable with. Be honest and relax the doctor is there to take care of you not hurt you..;-) and know that if your uncomfortable with anything just let them know...they will respect your feelings.

My son, 12, gets one every year. He's in 7th grade and needed to have a physical around 5th grade and on, for Scouts. It is not really embarrasing. He's had the same doctor since he was 18 months old and feels very comfortable around him. If you feel embarrased or uncomfortable, just take your mom/aunt/grandma with you. Whoever you feel comfortable with.

Don't be embarrassed, it's just a check up and nothing to get upset/worried about. Everyone should have a complete check up once a year.
