Personally I'm not a fan of poetry yet I appreciate it's beauty. To say poetry is boring is to express a complete lack of understanding. The written word can encapsulate emotion and thought, the reader embraces that with their own interpretation to produce a unique experience. Are your friends willing to do that?
Boring? Go watch TV, that's the mindless dizzle worthy of boring. Your friends aren't willing to give the reading its due. If they tried to appreciate the theme and form then maybe they would understand the writers intent. They don't understand, everyone is different. Be yourself and even though they don't share your interest I'm sure you don't share some interests of theirs.

Taste in poetry is personal, kind of like picking out shoes. What is beautiful, comfortable, cool depends on your experience and your feet, and where they have been. When you come across a poem that expresses something you have felt, or makes you think you might like to experience it, then enjoy it. If the poem is about something you care nothing about, has no rhythm that you can feel, speaks to no experience you have ever had, go on to the next one. Don't worry about 'great' -- until you have read a lot and read what poets have to say about writing poetry.
Read, listen, learn, and then see what you think.

The thing about poetry is that it's so very personal. You might read 100 poems and find them all boring, but the 101st brings tears to your eyes. I might do the same thing, but of the 101 poems, it might be #76 that moves me. Some make me laugh, some make me weep, some make me see things in a new way or think about something I've never thought of before.
I advise you to keep reading. Sooner or later, something will speak to you in its own way. I hope it happens soon....

It depends on the type of poems you read or write. Personally I love poetry - now I'm enjoying Modernist and Post-Modernist poetry, they are very rebellious poets, doing away with many conventions in traditional poetry - and they may not be considered boring...

I love poetry, and always have. My favorite book is The Best Loved Poems of the American People. If you love poetry, this is a must have book.

Who cares what other people think? You write poems from inside you to express feelings. Why should you care if people find it boring as long as you get the satisfaction from writing it?

some poems i like, some i don't.
the important thing is to make a decision for yourself and don't base your opinions on what your friends say.
