I am 37 and have heard the phrases"the gig is up"in many situations.i have heard it is gun fights ,in mystries solved and possibly in sailing
?which is correct?

The gig is the boat that the captain uses to get ashore. So if the gig is up on davits it means that the captain is aboard and now you cant get away with anything.

none of the above. Anybody can learn to sail. But there's two kinds (and believe me, they're both different.)1. Lake sailing/river sailing and ocean sailing. Ocean sailing is easier for 2 to 3 people than one person.

the jig is up means that you can't fool me anymore.
your con is over. i have discovered the truth.
or someone has discovered our deception and the jig is up.

jib is a sail on a sailboat. if the jib is up, then it's that sail that billows out in front. sometimes you might need it.

the words sound really similar but are different.
