1. Yes; No; Standard curriculum for a high school student; Workbook, reading assignments or essays; Yes.
2. 4 hours; Since I worked in my mother's store, I contributed my time; Under my circumstances, it was voluntary.
3. Simple and ordinary; No.
4. In my last year of high school; Sixteen; Go to the show or friend's house.
5. Singing or having dinner together.
6. Not fitting in with my own age level.
7. The news media, fashion and videos doesn't tell teenagers the truth about life. Amongst their own peers in the public school system they have oral sex in the bathrooms, play pimp games and are not aware of the corporate life in which they will have to look for a job; I think they are lost mentally and spiritually. The Hip Hop era is good for knowing how to compose poetry, but bad for morals, decency and the good side of the reality of life. I'm tired of hearing about drugs, alcohol, your baby's daddy, and aides. All of it will not go away until the government puts a slam on where it is all generated. For example, when I grew up the singers wore suits and looked like what I would want a young lady to date. Now they wear clothes down to half-way their but where you can see their underwear. Their raising the next generation if they make it there. Is that what their going to wear to work? Probably in a warehouse as a fork-lift driver.

1. Yes, Yes, Physics, Chem, Bio, Calculus, Economics, Anthropology, US and World History, English, US Government, required courses too. You had to attend HS until you were 16 yrs old, and then you could make a choice. But yes, Teens in my neighborhood did attend HS because we wanted a better life.
2. worked 40 hours a week (outside of school -- 2 part time jobs). Contributed to the Family because it was expected. HAD to work, there was no choice.
3. Pretty much what I wear now -- I wore slacks, shirts, shoes, socks, etc. NOT one bit of concern about fashion -- more concerned about comfort. HATED the fashion of the day.
4. Did NOT date in HS -- had my eye on College. Not a problem or question of age -- wanted to go to College, so I went on activities to pursue going to college and paying my way to college.
5. Working (earning a living), studying, volunteering at the Vet's organizations, things like that.
6. Most nagging problem was how to pay for my College Education -- I needed to do it myself since my parents were older when they entered marriage and my father was a WWII Paraplegic.
7. The Teenagers today are Disrespectful, digusting, constantly beat and abuse their parent(s), greedy, self-centered, and lazy. Don't want to EARN their way in life or in college or anywhere else. Don't want to EARN their vehicle -- expect everything handed to them by the parent. If the parent does NOT want to give the child something, then the PARENT is BEATEN and WHIPPED and viciously attacked by the TEENAGER!

I am 52, Yes I attended High School, It was not a case of want to. You just did it, no question. I had English, Spanish, High School Maths, Algebra, and Calculus. Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Biology, History, American, and Social Studies. I had, gym, music voice lessons, Art, Home Ec. Typing. I had as little home work as I could get away with. Every one went to School, no one questioned it. I came from a fairly wealthy Eastern Massachusetts Town. I worked about 20 hours a week after School, more in the summer. My mom forsebly took money every week. Not like she needed it! I found a way to hide about 1/2 my salary so she could not take it. We were not poor by any means, she was just wierd! I was smarter! Yes I wanted to work, I had a horse to pay for, and I wanted out of the house bad enough to save for it! My clothes were NOT in FASHION! Again my mom was wierd! I had to wear below the knee wool skirts, white cotton blouses and matching sweaters. In the middle of the late sixties and early seventy's I could not wear, slacks, never mind Jeans to school. Also, in her mind, Girls who wore panty hose, or tampons, were no longer Virgins??? I was NOT allowed to date until... YUP, until it suited them! My boyfriend had an early exceptance to Harvard, and was a Co-Captain on the Foot Ball team, and even though I was Catholic, He was the President of the local Episcopol Youth Group. THey GAVE HIM A KEY TO THE HOUSE?????????????? Talk about double standards! We did two things on a date, 1.SAT at his house and catered to his perfect family, and 5 siblings 2. Borrowed his familys station wagon and screwed our brains out. NOT much of a date! My most nagging problem was my most nagging 60 year old mother , yes she was 60 while I was in high school. AND I was an only child All that being said, and I now have two children 32 and 26 , pluss 3 grandsons, The biggest difference is respect and a fear to displease. See, I respected my teachers, and other elders, even my parents who were in a different millenium My biggest fear, was that I would hurt the people who loved me, even if they were wierd. Kids today, do not seem to have that love, respect and fear of dissapointing the ones that should mean the most to them. In short, MOST kids don't give a crap about any one except them selves. I think that is the main difference.

1 Yes I attended and graduated from high school. In my era it was expected that ALL teens attended and graduated. I enjoyed school, but then it was time away from home LOL I studied classes that would increase my knowledge and get me into college including science, math and language. PE was required My folks felt school was a job and homework was part of that job. Homework was nightly and took several hours.
2 I did not work outside of the home, again because school was my job. On weekends I would baby sit and that was pocket money only. My father worked, my mother stayed at home.
I took piano lessons and that was at least one hour a day of practice, plus school work. I was involved in after school clubs and spectator sports. I also played on a non-competitive tennis team for girls.
3 We did not have much money so Mother or I made my clothes. It was the 60's so anything went but I was not allowed to wear "blue" jeans. Yes, I wanted to fit in so Mother and I had many major disagreements on the length of my shirts, etc. I went to high school in a conservative city.
4 Yes I dated in high school. I had my first double date when I was 15 with my older sister. I started to date at 16. We went to dances, hang out at someone's home, went to movies, drive-in movies, and there was the usual park and neck place.
5 My friends and I played games and listened to music. We talked, went for walls. This was a time before hanging at the mall and kids with money. I belonged to Jobs Daughters, a social group of teen girls. We had meetings, went to church, had dinner at homes, sleepovers, and we had danced with the boys' group called DeMoley. These are Masonic youth organizations.
We had bikes and we rode where we did not want to walk. Parks were fun. If one friend had a car we used it to go to the park, or ice skating, or rollerskating, or movies.
6 Dad was busy with work but Mother maintained a tight control over my and my siblings lives. That was enough nag to fill my life then.
7 Teenagers today begin sexual encounters earlier. They have the friends with benefits. They have more money to spend. They have jobs and drive cars. All things as a teenager I did not have. Drugs were just surfacing when I was a teenager and drinking was no biggie, dif from teens today. I think teens today are losing the fun of childhood by crossing into adult activities so young. There is enough time in life to wait for sex, etc. Today's teens spend a great deal of time working and socializaing, with way too little emphasis on education.
