The current salary for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $165,200 per year.

The leadership is paid differently:
Senate Leadership
Majority Leader - $183,500
Minority Leader - $183,500

House Leadership
Speaker of the House - $212,100
Majority Leader - $183,500
Minority Leader - $183,500

Members of Congress are not eligible for a pension until they reach the age of 50, but only if they've completed 20 years of service. Please also note that Members of Congress have to serve at least 5 years to even receive a pension.

The amount of a Congressperson's pension depends on the years of service and the average of the highest 3 years of his or her salary.

It's close to $150,000 per year for a Senator, and $140,000 for a Rep. (just estimates) They work about 6 months of the year, have mucho expenses written off, and they continue to pull their entire salary as pension for the rest of their lives, no matter how long or short a time they were in office. Nice gig, huh?
