This one is from 1901.
When Queen Victoria died, two things happened immediately: (1) Edward VII became King, (2) Parliament went into recess. The next thing to happen was that the new monarch had to re-open Parliament, so that it was sitting on his behalf, instead of on his predecessor's. On that single occasion, the monarch has to make a particular once-in-a-lifetime speech. Edward's staff handed him the speech, last made by Victoria in 1837. There was something in it, to do with him now being head of the Church of England, which was a bit strong and he thought it could be offensive to non-Anglicans, so he wanted it changed. No, Sire, sorry, the only body that can approve any change to this speech is Parliament, and there isn't one, and there won't be one until you read out this speech to them. So, Catch-22.

It's much like the saying "caught between a rock and hard place". A catch-22 means that you almost have it, but some snag is keeping you from it. It's a situation that has no resolution.
It's hard to think of a specific example.
For example, you have a beautiful girlfriend who loves you, but is aallergic to sex. Thats the catch 22

It's illegal to sell things and make a profit from the sale without reporting the income to the IRS and paying taxes on it. You're scared of the IRS and don't want to go to prison for tax evasion.
You're selling marijuana that you grow in your basement. You don't want to be in trouble with the IRS, but you can't tell the IRS that all your money came from growing dope--because they will turn you over to the local cops---after they cash your tax check. Catch-22.

Catch-22s are circular and keep plunging you back into the same problem, no matter what your choice is.
A few years ago, in college, I lost my wallet. I needed to send in a notarized form to get a replacement license. To get the form notarized, I needed ID. But to get the ID, I needed the form notarized. And on and on until I found a notary on my campus who took my student ID, thank god.

You want to get a job in a field you like, but you can't unless you have experience. How can you get experience if no one will hire you because you need experience?
