They don't have any justification for it other than their bible. They actually think that we would choose to wake up one day and say to ourselves, "Ok, I want my parents to hate me, I want to lose my friends, possibly get kicked out of my house, lose my job, spit on, harrassed and discriminated against for the rest of my life because I want to be gay"
Yea right! People are so narrow minded, they need to wake up and take a fresh view of things

Great question! It's cool how you said . . . .
>>If being gay is a choice...
>>...then that must mean that being straight is a choice too, right? I'm heterosexual and I don't remember ever saying "hey, I think I'll be straight."
>>Holy little hands . . . LOL
Your question is the absolute best question I have ever read! I just wish I could come up with the perfect answer. An extra 10 points would be awesome!

Sure we make a choice to be hetero. Life is full of choices.
Okay, my body gives a signal, "Hey, it has been ages--alright maybe a few hours, days, or week or so, but it seems like ages--since you have did a sperm spurt, we're getting crowded in here, give us some relief!" What to do? I could give a masturbation release. I could find a release in the night because of my dreams. I could find a copulatory partner. But who? There are men, women, boys, girls, dogs, horses, etc. What makes some people decide to hump a horse (like the guy near Seattle earlier this year and got into the news because the horse didn't like it and kicked the daylights out of him)? Why not hump your dog, it is man's best friend after all? Suppose then that for whatever reasons I narrow the choice between males and females. Which to hump now includes an age range, old, middle, or young. What makes the difference?
Now, figure the equipment. A woman has essentially three potential places of interest: mouth, anus, and something called a vagina. A man has essentially two potential places of interest: mouth and anus. We still haven't figured out the relative value or disincentive between young, old, and in-between as far as age goes. So what if I want to sire some children? Well, I could pump anuses all my life long and there won't be any other little humans around that spring from me. I could enjoy mouths all my life long and won't get any better results. That narrows things a tad bit. Even then if I look for a willing vagina to make babies, I won't get much luck with the very old or the very young, one is over ripe and the other under ripe.
So if I just want my jollies, there are oodles of choices. If I want children, then that narrows the field a bit. Frankly, I think that anal action is unnecessarily disgusting when my male part gets coated with the substance commonly found there. But the other two options seem much more agreeable.
Ah, the short of it, there are choices galore, any reasonable person could see that, right? Beyond that we see we also make moral choices. It isn't right to hump boys and girls now, is it? If I can make that distinction, what is so hard to figure that as a man I would discover that it doesn't feel right to hump another man? Choices all over the place.

I don't believe that being gay is a choice at all. I have asked the same question as you stated above. If being a homosexual is a choice, then being heterosexual must be a choice as well. I don't remember ever trying out the two before making the "choice" to be heterosexual.

I had a couple very enjoyable same sex relations when I was in my teens. I was experimenting and I am still friends with one of the guys (he is now happily married btw). We no longer fool around and don't even talk about it. It was something that happened in the passed and we very well might be better friends for having had the experience.
I guess one day i decided that I no longer wanted to do that anymore and started dating women exclusively. He did the same.
As far as it all goes in the big scheme of things on a genetic level man is predominantly wired to continue the species. Maybe that's why some gays refer to straights as breeders. Yes I guess on some level our sexual preference is a choice, but on another it's not.

As a straight person I am quite sure I couldn't choose to be gay. I've no reason to suppose that anyone else can either.
Excellent question.

grapeshenry, there is a term you'd like better: heterosexism. It is more apt. But homophobia came around first so everyone just keeps using that word instead, even though it doesn't even mean quite the same/right thing. (Literally: afraid of sameness)

yes, they always do insist that we make a choice, but they never will answer us when we ask them when they made the "choice" to be straight? or we they born straight? I'd like to see them answer without one Biblical/religious reason, or making any rude accusations.
tell us when you chose to be straight, or we you born that way...plain and simple!
