In the early part of their career it's about the money, I personally think after about 6-7 years in the respective sport, they actually grow up and want to win.

50/50...you need to know players as a person to get the REAL answer. Many love the competition and have been playing their sport way before money was involved. I strongly believe that players should play before they get paid. It's unbelievably ridiculous that some athletes get paid millions upfront before they even prove themselves to be considered pros. You don't go to work, get handed a paycheck then work. You get paid for DOING the work first.

The really obscene thing is is that athletes get paid regardless of how they perform their job. If you do a bad job, you are limited in your raises and promotions.

Police, firemen, doctors, teachers and all military persons should be paid millions instead of those sorryassed athletes who do nothing even romotely heroic in teaching, helping and protecting the REAL people who work 40+ hours a week just to keep food in their stomachs, clothes on their backs, and a place to live.

Sure, many "entertainers" donate their time and money to causes but that's because they have made enough millions to spare it.

Bottom line is that athlete's salaries, however astronomical, should never be released as public info. We should be able to go see them perform and not think about how much we pay to see those spoiled millionaires get paid to PLAY!

Pro athletes, actors, and other performers get paid what they do because they generate millions in sales for what they perform. As long as people are willing to part with their hard earned money to see millionaires perform they will continue to get paid large salaries.

Umm doesn't championship = more money?
(either through endorsements, bonuses, or negotiating clout next time their contract is up)
Yes I'm sure that money is not the only motivation they have to win, but pro sports are a business.
