Life and death are just two sides of the same coin. They go together like light and total dark ... like happiness and sorrow. They are all a part of Being, just as you are.
You were not built to die !
You were born to live ... so do it til you're done. Easy huh ?
Good question.
With love,
Jonnie
PS And, your soul is indestructible ... you live forever. OK

Because we serve a higher purpose.. to reproduce and improve our species chances of evolving into organisms better equipped to the world we live in at a particular time. Just as we are continuously reproducing and each generation a step higher in the evolutionary ladder so is each generation of all the other species of life. Today we are at the mercy of cancer and AIDS... but future generations of humans will be immune to these two diseases, yet these same humans will have to deal with whatever new disease have evolved in the future. A person is unable to evolve fast enough on its own to guarantee eternal life for its species, therefore it takes two humans to reproduce for their best genes to become dominant and create an improved life form. This continues on from generation to generation, always struggling to become immune to its surroundings. I completely believe that our bodies are capeable of evolving into an organsim that continues to live forever.. but the cost would be that our bodies would also evolve into being infertile. There would be no more need to procreate if we were ever able to evolve into an everlasting being. Life does not care if a person or a fish is at the top of the food chain.. it only demands that for an organsim to survive, it must be stronger than its competitors. The easiest and fastest way for an organism to accomplish this is to evolve by taking the best traits it has and passing it on to the next generation... once it has done this, the parent needs to nurture and protect its young. Teach it to survive and improve its chances of adapting to the current world until it reproduces. After this task is complete, life has no more need for the parent organism and infact the parent poses a threat to future organisms by competing for food, therefor it is written in our dna to expire. Leaving the world and future to our offspring.

To the comment "The moment we are born, we are dying." No. We grow. Growth is the opposite of death. Once we stop growing, we start becoming old. We are built to live, and once we live and procreate, we die.

We are a living organism with limits of the body. It is a question you might do well to discuss with clergy on the continual living of the spirit. Many beliefs are out there. mine stem from a Christian point of view that I can direct you to passages of that nature if you wish. However, your question posed may be better answered in biology of animals.Longevity of our body as an organism can be aided by our choices of life style but ultimately it is my belief that life & death are not ours to decide .keeping your heart, lungs and attitude and inner peace in check will undoubtedly help you have great days ahead.also sharing your questions keeps life interesting.

I don't know either. It's rather overwhelming to think about how little we really matter in the larger scope of life. A grain of sand is possibly more important than we are and yet we have such high regard for ourself. Let's hope there is more after life. Guess that is faith.

There are two ways to look at it. As soon as we are born we begin to die or... as soon as we are born we begin to live.
If we lived for ever we'd be set in our ways and we'd never evolve. Hunamkind would never have progressed the way it has. We'd never have discovered electricity, established democracies and governments, cures for diseases and illnesses. Mankind would be dormant, people would probably be wishing they would die.

We weren't built to die. If we were, it would be a lot easier to deal with when someone dies.

We aren't. We have souls that long, long outlive our bodies.
Even if that weren't true, think of all the mean and evil people, would you really want them to continue to hurt folks forever?
