I'm twelve years old and I always have hours on end of nothing to do. Also make sure the hobby isn't too expensive or violent.

How about bird watching, you can get a book from the library and putting a few birdfeeders out isnt going to cost much. even a pair of binoculars doesnt cost much. If you like to write start writing stories. That would be fun and maybe even make you some money. Get some paper and charcoal pencils and start drawing if you like that. Even painting wouldnt cost you much. Good Luck!

Wow.....appreciate the Non violent requirement. I have 6 sons and we always kept the nonviolence to about zero. smiling.

How about making a scrapbook for your family with all the photos you might have lurking about.

Crossword puzzles are good, too.

Learn Spanish.

Learn to sketch or draw.

Clean your room and do a few chores to help mom and dad out.

Good luck with that, dear one!

Fishing. In most states you are young enough that you don't need to pay for a licenses, poles are not that expensive and worms are cheap as well as lures if you don't want to use worms. You could also join a club at school.

I couldn't get enough of looking at and collection rocks when I was your age. I made my own box to store them in and it was so fascinating to know what type they were, how they were formed, and what they were made of. It's fun even now to watch my son show an interest in rocks, it can even lead to a career in geology. We've purchased or found unusual rocks on vacation, too -- it's a fun rememberance of places we've been.

Take up the flute. Yeah, it sounds dorky, but if you get good at it, you'll like it. Listen to "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull, and in the middle of the song there is a huge flute solo...you'll like it =)
