In my state you don't need a license to own handguns.

Because they do not live in a free state. That's just the law does not cut it. The right to own a firearm is a natural right. It is not something the government has to take and give.
Try to get a gun permit in New York; good luck, Donald Trump has one you cannot. Non celebrities in NY do not value their lives apparently.
