Neuroscience has shown that what we call "love" is generated by the release chemicals and stimulation of regions in the brains. But beyond that, I think love is defined by expression. Unlike emotions such as anger or sadness, people seem to experience and define love in unique ways. But the behaviors of love are more consistent. When most anyone loves someone else, they will seek to maintain a close relationship with them, to protect them from harm, and to facilitate their happiness and success. Ask 50 mothers to describe the love they have for their child, and you'll probably get at least 25 different answers. But tell them that their child is hurt or in danger, and all of them will instinctively spring into action.

I suggest that you read M. Scott Peck’s book “The Road Less Traveled”. He explains that Love is, in it’s very highest form, a choice. This is how we are able to Love our enemies.

C.S. Lewis wrote the book “The Four Loves” which I also recommend. He says that the highest is “agape”. This is the type of Love that God has for us.

Love can be a feeling of affection and it can be a choice to put someone else’s needs above our own. It can also be something else such as an obsession under the disguise of love, but that is not really love.

Love can be an expression like - I would love to eat all the food I would want.

Love can be an emotion like - being in love

Ultimately, love is a choice like - when some one hurts you but you still choose to forgive that person even if you DONT FEEL like forgiving that person at all.

It is both as it is a expression of the emotion we feel for some one.

It depends. When you feel love for someone, it's an emotion. When you say you love someone, it's an expression.

God is Love it is written in the Bible. Love is The Being of our lives. Life is not worth living without it. Without it we are empty husks. Love attracts one soul to another, like gravity on the physical plane. Love is connection and empathy with another, to the point where the boundaries between where you begin and the other starts, are blurred.
