Christmas IS a burden because we have forgotten why we celebrate it. Running into store after store to get just what your kids want and fighting over the last one on the shelf reflects the Christmas spirit of today. I for one am sick of it. How many children have any idea that Christmas is anything more than a day for getting new toys from the fat guy in the red suit? A big rabbit bringing colored eggs into your home while you sleep, now there's a believable one! I come from a terribly materialistic family and the fact is I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on gifts for everyone every year. Every time someone tries to cut it back and suggests a hat with names or a lottery or just buying for the kids, the parents get offended that they can't buy gifts for their grown children. No doubt they are wondering, "but who will buy us stuff"?
I agree with you, it's a huge burden.

omg YESSSSS!!! since my mom died and our family is in turmoil, i only celebrate the holidays because of my granddaughter, who's the total "innocent" in all this mess, and deserves a chance at happiness in life, but if i had my druthers, i'd just close up the house and take a trip to the upper peninsula (michigan here) or to alpena and fish all week while my job site was closed down. the holidays are DEFINITELY a burden to me.

due to the fact it's our week or anything off from institution which is supposed to spend time with loved ones (vacation) and no longer doing homework. I imply academics do not ought to grade something so why must we ought to do such a lot paintings? if it is a little paintings and no longer like an essay then it is satisfactory, simply traumatic and that we do exactly at the final day of the excursion.

Yes and this is sad to feel this way. Everything has become money, money, money. I feel as if I have to spend more to get the little I do get. Things are so expensive and the kids want more each year. Parents/adults are pressured every year.
