If you intend to be an oft-published author, you would do well to edit it yourself. After all, you know better than any other person what you intended to do with each passage, and you are the one who can spackle over the faults or perhaps construct whole new material as needed.
Likewise, the publisher will undoubtedly have his own ideas about how the work should turn out. He will have his own copyeditors and the like go over your work before printing it, and may have any number of revisions to suggest as well. If you pay someone to edit it, all their suggestions may come to naught if the publisher is of a different mind.
Professional editing services are also one of the famous repositories of crooks in the writing business. They can charge you lots of money for little improvment. The rule of thumb to go by is that money should ALWAYS flow TO the author and never away. That's one of the best ways to avoid being taken advantage of!
If you really feel that your work needs someone else's input, probably the best things you might do are either to lean on your family and friends and get them to read it over, or to join a writing group where many aspiring authors go over each other's work. There are also many writing conferences where you can often submit work to be gone over by professionals. None of these methods cost you anything, and the input will probably be of a much higher caliber, coming either from friends, people doing the same work as you, or people actually in the business.
Good luck!

Hello. I am available to edit your book at a very reasonable cost. I am a care-giver for my boyfriend with a spinal cord injury and must stay home. Looking for more editing jobs to do at the moment. Have only edited 3 other books, but all have been very pleased with my work. Depending on word count, what types of editing you want done and how quickly you need it done is the deciding factor on how I charge...i.e. 68,000 words, final draft before publishing, check spelling, grammar and typographical errors, completed in 2 weeks, would be $400.00. This is almost $200.00 less than you will find on-line.
I would do a free 5 page edit to prove my skills. Upon approval, I would expect half before beginning and the other half when complete and before returning to you.
You may check out Scribendi.com, a very popular and reasonably priced editing service. They are reliable and experienced, but cost more than an individual.
Thank you for your consideration and good luck on your writing endeavors.

Your e book will be competing for (brokers or) publishers with books that were so appreciably edited that they contain no spelling blunders, no mistakes in grammar, no poorly chosen words, no awkward phrasings, no extraneous words, in difficulty-free words a nil.5 dozen ellipses and a dozen exclamation factors throughout the finished element, and plots that are tight, complexly drawn, and contain completely rounded characters. Going over it to fix grammar blunders in basic terms isn't sufficient, no longer in case you desire for a shot at authentic e-e book. Your mom is incorrect. i'm no longer a fan of hiring each and every man or woman to edit. rather, paintings on paying for those skills your self so that you would possibly want to be your human being editor. this received't ensue right away (those editors human beings pay paintings flat out to get those skills), yet in case you aspire to paid e-e book, this funding in your self will be truly certainly worth the attempt. when you consider that there is no time reduce, why no longer edit the e book as a lot as you probable can, as you study further and extra about modifying, however if it takes a year or 2?

hi, first of all, i recommend you use an official editor, not just anyone here offereng to edit it. I had my book professionally edited by a great editor, they were helpful, friendly and very useful. here is a link to a list of editors: http://www.lulu.com/browse/index.php?fCatId=106&fOffset=0&fSearch=&fSort=&fTagsSelected=6256&fLanguage=&fCountry=0
all these editors are approved by lulu.com (a great self-publishers, but you can use the editors without using lulu)
The editor i used was very reasonably priced. I believe i used editor ranked number 1 on the lulu service provider ranking.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Deanna
