Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves, as you have already observed.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It's just so easy to start thinking that just one won't hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don't have just one. Beware - alcohol will weaken your resolve.
Here's a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It's not just nicotine addiction - there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as 'my body needs something', which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these 'my body needs something' sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the 'want something' feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we've had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.

After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.

Quitting smoking is a very hard battle, I have been quit now for around a year. The main thing in quitting smoking is that you really have to want to, you have to be really ready to do it. If you just love to smoke and are not committed to quitting, you probably won't be able to, even if you use patches or whatever. I tried to stop cold turkey, but I still used to have a few. I kept on trying not to have any, but always had some, but not as many. That's how I cut down and after a while I was able to go longer and longer without any. Eventually I was able to stop all together. First after I stopped, I still had cravings every so often but now I find that I don't even think of it and to even smell cigarette smoke now disgusts me. I do feel alot better now that I have quit. I can breath alot better and I just overall feel healthier. You also have a great motivation to quit, wanting to have a baby. Your baby will be healthier and after you give birth you won't be smoking around your child because you quit and you won't influence your child to smoke because you won't be smoking. You can tell him how bad it is and how hard it was for you to give it up. I hope I have been some help to you.

My husband and I have been non-smokers for almost 2 years now. The way we did it was just quitting cold turkey. I admit it was quite hard the first 2 weeks or so but it did finally get better. My Dad was also a smoker for quite a few years and tried quitting numerous times with no success. He tried the patch, gum and everything in between. He finally quit cold turkey and has been smoke free for almost 5 years. One thing he told me that is very true about quitting smoking is that you can't quit smoking until you are truly ready. No patch or gum or anything will do it, it has to be you. I hope this helps you out. Good Luck

on the grounds that you smoke that so much day-to-day, your frame bought adjusted having those poisons going for walks ur frame. That's why humans with extra critical drug issues can truthfully die through quiting suddenly. You hav to take cut down your quantity of cigarettes perhaps each and every few weeks or anything you are cozy with. The cause why you have been coughing and stuff (tryign not to smoke) was once when you consider that your frame was once so used to having two-five cigarettes an afternoon. So each and every week you must cut down slowly from two-4cigarettes, then a further few weeks, two-three, then so on.

Smokenders worked for me. I was going to tell you what they do, but I would probably leave some important detail out. It's been 24 years now, and I've not had another cigarette. Good luck!
