The answer is yes! The way our govt. works includes distribution of power to those in the majority. For example, for six years the majority of the population, which voted 5,000,000 more for Al Gore, has had to sit back and watch a republican congress say yes to everything that Bush has done. The House originates all spending bills. So if Bush wants to do something, it is the House that must give him the money to do it. If something objectionable happens, the power to investigate or not belongs to the majority party. If it is republican, there is no investigation. If it is democrats, there will be an investigation, and we will be much more informed. So indeed, if the House goes to the democrats, it will make a huge difference to the country, its finances and the direction it will go in. And it make a huge difference to Bush who will for the first time feel the heat of scrutiny and objection. It is time to make any possible change in the direction this country is headed. If you vote, it will make a difference.

Some generals might end up in the middle of torture investigations.

Haliburton might have to withdraw and be replaced by someone else if investigations show they are fraudulent. Something the republicans won't even investigate to clear haliburton's name.

Bush might be impeached.

Some civil rights might be restored.

A push to pay down the debt might happen.

States might get to decide if they would like industrial hemp for an agricultural crop.

Stem Cell research will get a boost. More democrats are for this issue than republicans in house and senate.

Our direction on the Iraq war may have a change that isn't possible right now.

There are a lot of potential changes. I hope democrats don't go too corrupt with such power.

There will be an influence, in that Bush could become a "lame duck" president. Also, the scariest part of all....Pulosi as house majoroty leader. That's scary! I kind of like the house being majority of the opposite party of the President, as it takes away his ability to just do whatever he wants.

No, because inertia is Americas political system setup. Things change real slow in America. Don't except voodoo solutions for economic or immigration, Iraq with either democrats and republicans. Get the same trash in 2006 and 2010, its take more than one election to change the inertia of the system. Just afraid are elections looking more like Latin America, and Italy. Untied States are closer to southern Europe and Latin America in the curroption Index that is not good. Your vote could be changed in 2 mintues doesnt make me feel good no matter if i voted republican or democrat.

Of course it is tremendously important which party has majority control. If Democrats have majority control of the House, then all of the committees will be dominated by and chaired by Democrats. And Bush will veto bills more often if the Dems control.
