It could be several things. He might be teething - when babies teethe, they swallow more mucous...it comes out the other end :-(
Or it could be related to the stomach ache. Most pediatricians will tell you that if the baby is nursing normally and is staying hydrated, then there's no reason to worry.
But I'm no Pediatrician, so if you're concerned, call yours :-)

It happens from time to time and DOES NOT mean you can't breast feed. Your breast milk is more gentle than any type of formula. Is he "emptying" each breast? If you have an issue with over supply he could be getting too much fore milk and not enough hind milk. If that's the case make sure he's nursing long enough on each side. If you have started any vitamins that could also cause it. Does he have any problems when you drink cow's milk? If you notice it happening on the same days you have a lot of dairy it could be an intolerance to the protein in dairy. Check out www.askdrsears.com...they have tons of great answers!

Definitely discuss this problem with your doctor. Congrats for giving your baby the best start in life by exclusively breastfeeding him. However, I would definitely look into food sensitivities as a possible cause of your baby's distress. What you are eating can cause allergic reactions in your baby. Common allergens include dairy, gluten (protein in wheat, barley, rye), soy, citrus, nuts, and eggs. Dairy and gluten are probably the most common; you can cut one out at a time to see if his issues clear up.

Everyone has mucus in their digestive track, it protects against your stomach acid. Its normal to have some mucus discharge. I would still check with your pediatrician it could be a sign of irritable bowel syndrome.

If your using baby formula for him it could be this. I would check with your pediatrician and see if maybe he's allergic to this. If not then i would still take him to get checked.
Good Luck and hope he feels better soon.
(something i always did when my boys got belly aches, even when they were real little like that, is take a 4 oz. bottle and fill it with warm watter and dissolve a small piece of a peppermint stick in it, and have him drink it slowly...when that's gone lay him across your lap on his belly and rub his back.) may or may not work for you, but it always did for me.
Best to you and your little one

my little girl had this, she had digestion problems
the put her on a special formula, you can still breastfeed your child and just supplement with the formula.
you need to let your pediatrician know about his bowel movement
he will probably suggest nutramigen for him to use for formula.
it's more expensive than all the other formulas, but it's well worth it. my little girl didn't have to stay on it. she was only on it for a few months and she was fine after that

Could be phlegm, could be his formula, but check with your doctor...always check with the doctor. When I had my young ones, I had a notebook where I would write down questions I had for my doctor. It works great and I have it for reference with my other boys.

It could be. Consult the pediatrican and let them know about the mucus. They may want you to bring in a sample.
