He is the type of hitter (life time batting average of .332) that has so much physical power and ability that even if the pitch isn't over the plate and whether or not he gets good wood on the ball, he can muscle a ball right out of the ball park. The thinking is that a team would rather take their chances with a lessor hitter and if that lessor hit beat you, okay. The odds are that the lessor hitter won't beat you and that's the game the pitcher plays.
