Sometimes all you need is a dictionary

Immolation - from Latin 'immolare': to sprinkle (the sacrificial victim) with meal before sacrificing it.

Connoisseur - from Old French connoisseor, from connoistre, to know

Impose - of Latin impnere, to place upon

Recoil - Middle English recoilen, from French reculer to move backwards, from Latin culus the rump.

Endeavor - Middle English endevour, from endeveren, to make an effort, from (putten) in dever, (to put oneself) in duty, make it one's duty : in, in; see in1 + dever, duty (from Old French deveir, devoir, duty

Succession - Middle English, from Old French, from Latin successi, successin-, from successus, past participle of succdere, to succeed
