you can use a verb describing HOW it was said, for instance,
replied pleaded answered
whispered laughed responded
announced urged
told encouraged
cried
As in:" I hope you understand what I am explaining to you", she answered.

A good way to make your writing interesting is to use a more accurate word for "said". In your mind, think of how that person would really have spoken that sentence.
Did he remark? shout? growl? snarl? whisper? argue? scream? mumble? There are SO many ways to describe how a person speaks.
You can use two words too. He "argued loudly." or "said placidly".
Remember to use the past tense, because you're describing what was done in the past when you write. It's seldom proper to say "John says". It's better to say "John said".
Another very good tool is a thesaurus. It's available in paperback form at any bookstore. You can also find a built-in thesaurus in most word processors and email editors. Look in the Toolbar.
Good luck and have fun being creative.

Yes. Try any of these-- confided, intimated, confessed, disclosed, told, answered, joked, growled, spat, directed, cooed, moaned, screamed, asked.
There are quite a few but those are what comes to mind immediately.
