Probably some classical time (like Bach or Motzart) but I'm going to say the 1950's personally. The golden age of the newer forms of Jazz (bop, cool, latin)

We won't know the lowest point until our culture is able to pull itslef up from the pop mire that allows a Paris Hilton CD to exist.

as music evolves, its hard to find a high and low point depending on the genre. every kind of music has to start somewhere and then it gets better. you cant really call an origin a low point because at that time it was the best. if there is a low point in music, it would have to be the comercialized formulated crap that is labeled pop music. i hate to say it, but i even like some of that. i think all music contributes something no matter how much you hate it. so there is no bad music. some you like and some you dont.

I think it's all been pretty much downhill since Aretha Franklin sang "Respect". There's for damn sure not a rapper fit to shine her shoes.
