The exact answer to this depends upon the denomination and culture of the Christian involved. Typically marriage to a non-Christian is discouraged but not banned. There are Biblical passages about living a righteous life so as to convert the non-Christian spouse. Also, if a believer is married to a non-believer and the non-believer wants a divorce the Bible says to let the non-believer leave. There are only two officially recognized reasons for divorce: sexual infedelity and being married to a non-Christian. Do be aware that according to Christianity any children born to the marriage must be raised Christian. Do know also that some cultural practices common in Muslim countries are banned by Christianity. You may have cultural as well as religious problems.

No... not all Muslims are obliged to have an arranged marriage, despite all the scare stories you may read or hear about. A Muslim may choose to have a 'love marriage', and is allowed to marry outside the religion as long as the person he/she is betrothed to converts to Islam.

It depends how strict a Muslim he really is. If you've already had sex or he drinks etc., then I surmise that he's probably not very! From his own stance, he may not be all that bothered about whether you convert or not... though if he hails from a practicing family, he may wish you to convert in name only just to keep them happy.

Without knowing how much you've discussed this with your partner/fiance, that's the best I can advise you for now. Hope I've shed some light anyway! :-)

Muslims do not all have arranged marriages. I had an archeology professor and her husband was muslim, she was a christian. There might be some tension between the families, but i believe that most people want to get along with people who are of different backgrounds. People like it when outsiders try to appreciate and learn their culture. Like when i was in Texas and I tried the Menudo, this Mexican/American family eating next to me were instant friends and told me the whole story of stomache lining and hominy stew. They were thrilled to death of having a gringo have a taste of their culture. But I digress....

I believe the more relevant question is, can a muslim woman get married to a Christian man. This question delves into more obtuse, robust, and profound subject areas as opposed to the question posted by yourself. However, arranged marriages are coming back into style so I hear.

Yes but it often ends with the geezer running off with the kids back to his country. Its usually a story in one of the women's magazines every few weeks. A friend of mine started seeing a Muslim guy but whenever his parents came to stay she had to remove all her stuff from out of his flat. It was demoralising and shameful and she eventually broke it off. She was heartbroken as she perceived it that he was ashamed to be with an English woman. He apparently told her that it wasn't that he was ashamed but he would never go against his parents - he would eventually marry a Muslim woman! Its the best of both worlds for a Muslim man!

You are in for a messy situation. Not all Muslims have arranged marriages, but most do. It depends on where they are living. The trouble for you lies in that you are Christian and your partner is Muslim.
