You don't need a job. It is one component of a package. A lot will also depend on where you want to go to college. Some of the large state universities will focus on SAT or ACT scores, GPA and class rank, and might not even look at a resume or list of activities. Your package consists of your test scores, your academic profile, your essay, recommendations, an interview if you have one with an admissions office, and activities including clubs, community service and any sports. It's hard to see how having a job at a fast food restaurant would be weighted by a college more than building houses for Habitat for Humanity, right? The package doesn't have to be 100% complete to make you a very desirable candidate. On the other hand, if you're looking for discretionary scholarships and grants, a scholarship review panel might decide that you should have gotten a job and tried to earn some money to pay for school instead of being in that anime club...but you're getting into very subjective assessments. Consider putting your community service in the employment area, as uncompensated employment, or leave it blank. Neither one should hurt you at all if you have other stuff in your package that looks good.

Working at an attorney general's office, unless you are applying to a medical oriented shool in which case you would want to do the pharmacy position.

However, operating you own business is very prestigious because if your business is profitable it shows that you are willing to do what it takes to make money and it shows schools and employers alike that you have good reliability. Although, starting your own business will be the most time consuming and costly up front. I recommend you go into a business and/or computer related route for opening a business, but before you do make sure that you understand basic business practices, business law, marketing, management, and accounting or the costs that it takes you to hire out for these items will eat up all of your profits.

It depends on what type of work you want to do in the future and what job you would enjoy the most. Working in the attorney general's office would be impressive but if you want to be a doctor or an artist another job might better show you're truly passionate about that field, even if it means starting at the very bottom so to speak.

If you are talking about getting into an undergraduate program, I don't think colleges would be all that impressed with a job you had in high school. Maybe if you started and ran a successful business that would be a grabber. Otherwise, get good grades, be active in your school and/or your community, and do well on the SATs.

#3 is certainly prestigious. However, you might want to check your spelling of attorney. #4 may show entrepreneurial ability, but a lot of it depends on how much risk is involved in starting your own business and you would also be judged on the success of that business. I think that you should consider what you'd like to do with your life first -- it appears as if #4 is the most exciting to you -- what kind of college program you will be applying to (e.g. business, prelaw, fine arts, etc.) and tailor your pre-college vocation to that program. That said, as prestigious as #3 is, nothing is as demonstrative of strong character than risking a lot in starting your own business -- regardless of whether you succeed or take a dive.
