Goldfish have internal egg sacs and they get plumper when their eggs mature. Gold fish propagate by the male bumping up against the female to disloge her eggs and make her discharge the eggs which he fertilizes with a constant stream of milt (sperm). Do you have several goldfish? Usually, they will not mate in a bowl or aquarium. I have two large ponds and we had about 12 babies this year. The mortality rate for goldfish babies is great. Infant goldfish are black - even the bright gold ones, so they are hard to see.

Sometimes you have to separate the males from the females when they harass them too much. A female can get really bashed about during mating season. Also, it is not true that goldfish eat their young - you will see that but I can tell you for a fact it is untrue. Goldfish are wonderfully intelligent and love to have fun with their keepers. They can also be trained easily.

Your goldfish could also have a disease. Check out the web there are several really good goldfish sites.

Goldfish don't get pregnant, they are not live bearers, meaning, they do not give birth to fry. They lay eggs and the male inseminates them while swimming over them.
