how can i use my tivo without subscribing to tivo?

i have a tivo box .please help on how i can use it without paying for the service as a recorder.

I don't think that's possible. If it comes with basic TiVo, which some do, it might be, but I think it doesn't work otherwise. I could be wrong, though.
